Disinfecting Procedures
High-touch surfaces should be disinfected regularly, and individuals assigned to clean and disinfect equipment and high touch surfaces must only use soap and water and household disinfectants, unless they have been trained to use commercial products.
- Ensure that those who have been assigned to clean/disinfect each piece of equipment have been made aware of the manufacturer’s recommendations including any required personal protective equipment that must be worn (eye protection, disposable gloves and or face mask/covering). It may be helpful to post/mount the cleaning/disinfecting instructions next to where the items are stored or cleaned/disinfected.
— In general, items should be cleaned with soap and water or disinfected using an EPA disinfectant after each cabin/cohort use per the manufacturer’s guidance.
— Kid and volunteer involvement in cleaning and disinfecting items is strictly limited to using soap and water and household disinfectants. - If possible, individuals should be given their own sport/activity related equipment (ball, harness, paddle, etc.) and these individuals should clean or disinfect their assigned items after individual use.
Household Disinfectants reported to kill coronavirus
- The cleansers listed below are some “top picks” by the CDC and other health authorities.
- To see if a household cleanser not listed here meets the EPA’s criteria for use against the coronavirus, locate the EPA registration number on the back of cleanser and visit the EPA’s Website.
- Disinfectants not sold in a grocery store are not to be used without additional OSHA chemical safety training.
Diluted Bleach
How to Use It:
Per the CDC Guidelines, mix 1/3rd cup of bleach per gallon of water. The liquid should be left on a solid surface for 10 minutes before wiping it off.
Personal Protective Equipment Required:
Gloves should be worn.

Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
How to Use It:
Eliminates the virus on solid surfaces. The moisture in the wipes should be allowed to air dry, or allowed 4 minutes to set before wiping the surface dry.
Personal Protective Equipment Required:
No personal protective equipment required.

Clorox Sprays + Bleach
How to Use It:
Eliminates the virus on solid surfaces. The liquid should be left on a solid surface for 10 minutes before wiping it off to kill the virus.
Personal Protective Equipment Required:
Should be used only in well-ventilated spaces, or where a window can be opened.

Lysol Disinfecting Spray
How to Use It:
Eliminates the virus on solid surfaces. The liquid should be left for 10 minutes before wiping it off.

How to Use It:

Soap, Water, and Friction
How to Use It:
Any brand of soap along with water and friction (rubbing) has been shown to destroy the virus instantly.

Isopropyl Alcohol (70%)
How to Use It:
Isopropyl alcohol with 70% alcohol content can be used to clean some surfaces. The liquid should sit on a solid surface for 30 seconds before wiping it off.
